Contacting Patients
MAIL: Families and friends are encouraged to maintain contact with patients by sending letters. Patients are encouraged to write letters and assistance is provided if necessary. Families and friends are allowed to provide stamps. The following addresses should be used to write to patients:
Patient Name
North Mississippi State Hospital
1937 Briar Ridge Road
Tupelo MS 38804
TELEPHONE: Each patient is given a four-digit code that must be used when calling the patient. The patient will give you this number the first time he or she calls you. You will be asked to use this code each time you call. The numbers you may use are:
Men’s Unit – (662) 840-9261
Women’s Unit – (662) 840-8445
VISITATION: Visitation is held on Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Additional visitation days include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Children of patients are allowed to visit with family members during this time. If your family member is on a white or red level, please contact a social worker on Friday to be sure you will be allowed to visit your family member.
You cannot bring any foods to your family member. You cannot bring money to the patient. No money is allowed on the units. We meet all the basic needs of our patients while they are with us; therefore, no money is needed. The only time money might be needed is if the patient needs to call long distance to talk to his/her family. You might consider bringing a pre-paid phone card for your family member. (Please note: any money your family member has will be locked in safekeeping until his/her discharge.)
Due to limited storage, patients are allowed to have up to four changes of clothing while at the hospital. Should your family member request additional clothing, he/she will have to send other clothing home with you on visitation day.
Please remember that NMSH is a tobacco-free facility.
